Combine Style Roots with Your Body Type | Refine, Focus, Follow Method

There are 3 ways you can fuse your style roots with your body type. This is the core problem I see - that people think they have to abandon their own style to dress for your body type and this is not the case!

Refine, Focus, Follow

I have developed a system of 3 different methods to make your style roots work for your body type. The first step is to write out a list of elements that make up your style root. For example, for moon you might write:

  • dark colours

  • chains

  • lace

  • stripes

  • leather

  • rips

  • leopard print

  • velvet

Let’s say for the following examples you are a Romantic with a β€˜moon’ style root.

Refine

β€˜Refine’ method involves adjusting each detail so that it fits your body type recommendations. So the celestial print on the left is too large and sharp for an R type, but the version on the right is little and delicate. The idea is to adapt your root detail to your lines like this!

Focus

β€˜Focus’ method involves changing the silhouette to match your body type lines, regardless of the size/shape of the β€˜root’ detail. In this example, our R girl wants to wear plaid which is inherently a yang detail, so would contrast with her body type. Going for a dress like the one on the left would make the situation worse, but so instead go for one with puff sleeves, waist definition and an round skirt silhouette so that the shape works for your R figure.

Follow

The last option is the easiest but most limiting one. Simply choose the elements from your roots list which work for your body type, rather than trying to make the others work. So instead of picking stripes, chunky boots or plaid, you might pick leopard print, lace or velvet.
